Abstract

We have been following Peter Brian Gabriel (PBG of PG) since 1974 and Genesis’ Foxtrot album. Our cousin saw them live performing The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. In no time we, my friends and I, picked up on the The Lamb as we fans would come to fondly refer to it. A few of us learned most if not all the words to the Lamb from … Echos … In conjunction with me going away to college PBG began his solo career. We saw him perform PG-1 in its’ totality in San Diego California at the California Theater. The theme was Orange and Green. He paused the show and disappeared. I had moved to the back row and he came through the door next to me. I leaped forward to shake his hand and my Levi Jacket snagged on the wall stopping me short. The audience carried him above their heads back to the stage. When I got back up front row I turned and saw in awe the way the people looked at him.

Modern Love – Modern Protest

Over time I saw about ten PBG shows. The last was in 2023 in Los Angeles. I caught a good video of Solsbury Hill and posted it on You Tube. I published a weak paper on PGB back in 2017. I wanted his next album to be called Out. He called this one i/o possibly for input/output. I suggest his next album-show be called CALC for Calculation. PGB is interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) now. One of AI’s features is it does and will make Calculations. Buddy! I have a Hypothesis: Peter Gabriel is the incarnation of the Angel Gabriel. PGB’s words are so powerful. He is our and many others’ hero. He helped us gain awareness of modern protest about Apartheid and Biko. September ’77 was when we went away to college at the age of 18. Anti-apartheid was located in Davis, California when we were up there. We’ve been and are amazed at PGB’s grasp of Western Literature. In college we wanted to write a paper on Broadway Melody of 1974. We studied each line. Because of PBG we learned about Caryl Chessman and capital punishment in California. Every line of that song has a lesson. PGB has changed our life for the better for the term. What follows is some biographical information on Peter Gabriel from a fans “Perspective”.

Years ago circa 1984 while attending college at UC Davis California we drew a self-image. It features the front of our face combined with a side view. This picture reminds us of Peter Brian Gabriel’s i/o picture on the program from the 2023 show.

Microbiology - Under the Scope

During PBG’s 2023 show he had slides of various things. They included what looked like micro-imagery. We included these so we can demonstrate that with a camera fitted microscope he could get some really-cool imagery for his next tour-show. Algae are always nice because it is naturally colorful and fairly large.

We used to enjoy OK “page-views” with our Blog The Torkel Saga. Russia often came up with good viewership. We have another better followed Blog – AnimaCules.

Signature Card

Back in 1978 we actually met Phil, Tony and Mike at a Record signing in San Diego. We got them to sign The Lamb. For Peter’s signature we sent a card to him at the address for his fan club in the UK. We didn’t get our card back.

We only saw post-PBG Genesis once it was for the And Then There Were Three concert in San Diego. Same circa PBG solo show was stronger.

JPL on Up

Our friend JPL is an avid PBG and Genesis fan. He could not get into PG Up. It took us seeing it in concert 3 times to really appreciated Up.

3 Ups - No I Grieve

You know how it is when you listen and sing to a new album (Up) naturally you pick a FAV. We were grieving the deaths of our mother (1998) and father (1999) when Mr. Gabriel released his Up Album CD. We thought he was grieving the loss of his father. From Up we secured the most benefit out of singing I Grieve especially the bridge.

Interesting FAV – I Grieve

We saw the Up concert three (3) times and never heard I Grieve. Kulle says that it is because it is too sad to add to the show. At the time when it came to grieving our parents (D. 1988 and 1989) we tended to reside in the Bargaining Phase, feeling we might see them again. We lost our most significant other ever (MSOE) back in 2016 “So” we are in Acceptance phase with that.

UCSD Humanities

I started college when I was 18 years old at the University of California @ San Diego. A required 6 unit class was Humanities. At the same time I was listening to PBG’s solo material. That kept Genesis and their lyrics on my mind. I was always amazed at how much Western Thought went into Genesis’ lyrics. Then I found out that they some members went to a great school - Charterhouse.
