20160321-M: Executive Summary – Abstract
This paper addresses: Rest – Exercise – Nutrition – Health – Education – Welfare or RENHEW.  For each category we preferred using existing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) assessment tools.  Nearly half were pre-existing.  For the categories where we could not find a good fit we modified or derived assessments.  This is a collaborative effort with one of my old university roommates TAS.  We had a successful partnership back in 1985.  Until further notice I (DAG AKA KET) am the only research subject.  Using my most current Conditional Health Fitness (ConFit) score of a 53% (deficit level) we balanced things out with assets for a RENHEWFit score of 64%.  The point is that asset development can help measurably offset health (conditions) issues.  For completing the data sets for this paper we addressed hundreds of items – questions or statements.  The timeframe we addressed was October 2015 till March 2016.  Most of the data we scored since the beginning of 2016.

RENHEWFit Calculation Defined
RENHEWFit is a balance between deficits and assets (or strengths).  It takes into consideration Self Care and Health Condition management working towards goals under happiness (TAS) and/or personal peace (KET).  KET’s current (2016) RENHEWFit is 64% with 100% being the ideal.  The REHNEWFit calculation will be refined as needed.  We are currently using the Beta Version (RF-Beta).  The calculation took into consider a measurement we derived early the Conditional Fitness Score or ConFit.

20160321: Introduction - To A Solution

Research and Needs
Is there a need for routine renewal?  How is renewing oneself implemented?  Do people have meetable unmet needs about renewal?  Are people being served inappropriately? We here at MSG think yes to all.

Renewable Partnerships – Win & Won Partnership (1985)
Even though the TAS and I associated after we lived together in 1985 it was living together in the dorms at UC Davis that cemented our harmonic partnership.  Thinking back, there was not feature of the TAS that annoyed me.  At the end of this last year (2015) the TAS indicated that he wished to partner up again.  We are still working out the details of what product our partnership should generate.

Priorities
In my and MSG’s prior publications (2013-2015) I (TheDAG) was the one that picked the priority items.  For this paper the TAS has selected three priories of the total ten or so areas about Rest-Exercise-Nutrition-Health-Education-Welfare or RENHEW.  The TAS selected: Nutrition, happiness, and self-care for elaboration.

Having Fun First
I selected as a priority for us have fun first rather that taking things too seriously as I have done previously.  I suffer anxiety and my manner of coping has been taking life very seriously.

Pacing
Normally I would address all the data here and not get back to it for at least four months.  This time the pace is set about the TAS’s needs, interests, and products.

Journaling to Publishing (Therapeutic)
After my parents died in (1988 and 1989 respectively) I used journaling to cope.  Starting in 2013 I began to publish as one of my means to cope with the substantial challenges I cross in my day-to-day concerns, commitments, and responsibilities.

Digital Preservation Management (Digital Preservation Project)
I am part of the digital preservation management movement.  My goal is to significantly digitize my materials by the time I am sixty years old or about three years out from 2016

Measurable Outcomes
The TAS and I are preparing to make some positive behavioral changes.  Some we are already in the process of changing such as routine communications.  The baseline data shared in this paper represent a baseline with which to measurably determine the outcomes of said changes.  Whereas the TAS may notice some substantial improvements I am hoping to improve across only two or three areas.

Sharing
Whereas I share via my Blog (Now Blogs), personal communications, and public comment I am hoping the TAS shares via his website.  When we get that going I will include the link to his material such as his (self) assessment results in this post.

[LINK PENDING]

20160321-M: Materials
The List of Materials including Assessments is the same as in the data tables presented earlier.  For the time being we will live them out to make the paper four or five pages shorter.  For the feature items: Nutrition, happiness, and self-care we will include links and other information we find helpful.  In addition the list of material required for desktop publishing has been left out.

Method – Metrics

Define Metrics
A method of measuring something, or the results obtained from this.  For example "the report provides various metrics at the class and method level"

The methods used here are a combination of: Bio (Biological) - Psycho (Psychological) – Behavioral and Socio (Social).  We left out Psychiatric Diagnostic (Psyche) measurements.  The results of diagnostic measurements were included in the RENHEWFit score as the ConFit (Conditional Fitness) element.

Methods Applied - What Is RENHEW?
Daily activities directed at making measurable differences about indicators for Health, Education, and Welfare by addressing “Whole Person Care” (WPC-DHCS, 2016)

Partner Priority
I let my old and now new again partner TAS picked the areas of priority for him.  He picked nutrition, happiness, and self-care.  So in this report we will only elaborate on his priority items.

20160308-TU: Define Welfare

Welfare Assessment Tool (WAT) Development Separate
Welfare is the last element in RENHEW yet we have the most data pertaining to Welfare.  We will be applying self-care to improve both our common welfares.

Method - Sharing Results & Misinformation
We have some preexisting posts (papers) that apply to the RENHEW concept.  Some of the links are listed below.  The HEW post addresses a single challenge that ate up considerable resources (Circa 1989).

Goal
Get a baseline data set about happiness using a standardized assessment “instrument” by addressed two methodologies: Paper and Electronic.  Ponder the results and attempt an interpretation.

Instructions
If you intend to reuse (like say every four months (4M)) the assessment consider scoring on a separate sheet of paper.  We will address periodicities for administering various assessments at a later time.

How Happy Are You?
Take The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire and your score will be emailed to you. Interpretation brief - The most unhappy score you can get is a "1" and the happiest is a "6." The average person scores slightly over 4.  Score arrives via e-mail

Note on Mr. Take Away (Avey, 2016)
One note is whether a resource falls under satisfaction, happiness or whatever if Mr. Take Away wants a resource – your powerless and it is gone.  There is a fine line between loss and taken away by Mr. Take Away.

Interpretation
Unless we specifically focus on about five items to work for improvement this year (2016) will probably yield unremarkably changes to our OHQ-29.  Another observation is that we may have reached a linear and flat part to the graph.  We are experiencing average happiness with is a whole lot better that the eleven percent reported retroactively for 2012.  Most of the improvement was driven by us rather that any outside entity.

Goal
Get a baseline data set about Self-Care using a standardized assessment tool by addressing one methodology.  The Self-Care Assessment (SCA) we are using here is actually three assessments in one: Areas of self-care (Global), Overall balance (Balance), and Areas of Self-Care that are Relevant to You (Relevant).  Offer up an attempt to score a more complex assessment that the shorter screening assessments.

Instructions
If you intend to reuse (like say every four months (4M)) the assessment consider scoring on a separate sheet of paper.  We will address periodicities for administering various assessments at a later time.

“The following worksheet for assessing self-care is not exhaustive, merely suggestive. Feel free to add areas of self-care that are relevant for you and rate yourself on how often and how well you are taking care of yourself these days. When you are finished, look for patterns in your responses.”

Are you more active in some areas of self-care?

Do you tend to ignore others?

Are there items on the list that hadn’t even occurred to you?

“Listen to your internal responses and dialogue about self-care, and take note of anything you would like to prioritize moving forward.”
